Product Launch Failure due to lack of SEO & Marketing
TV exposure but no web site traffic!
Nikki came to an associate of ours after a failed product launch. She had worked hard for exposure and eventually been interviewed on a popular current affairs show on TV. The tragedy was she got no traffic to her web site as a result - it actually went to their competitors.
The reason for the failure
She'd had a web site created for her by a graphic artist with some web skills in preparation for the TV interview about the dangers of BPA in baby bottles. Unfortunately, after the interview, when people searched on BPA free baby bottle, they got every site but hers. This was because the site had been created without regard to search engine optimisation, and had not been submitted via Web-Master facilities to the correct directories.
Preparing for success
Business Geeks rebuilt the site so she could maintain it herself. The rebuild was deliberately optimised for search engines (SEO). The optimisation included the site structure, pages names, URL names, headings, alternate tags, meta-data, cross-linking and anything else I could find. I then submitted it to Internet directories such as Google.
Launch Success!
Nikki was fortunate to obtain another TV appearance on a current affairs show on a different channel. The afternoon after her next TV appearance, she was a very happy lady; the income generated through the web site on that day alone nearly paid for the entire web site! She was now positioned to ramp up a growing business.
Some Quotes
Some well know quotes for all who wish to successfully engage the public using the Internet:
- William Osler: The best preparation for tomorrow is to do today's work superbly
- Confucius: Success depends upon previous preparation, and without such preparation there is sure to be failure.
- Bobby Unser: Success is where preparation and opportunity meet.
- Joe Gibbs: A winning effort begins with preparation
Conclusion
There is no point building a web site that people may not find. It must be built from the ground up based on a clear understanding of the message to be conveyed, and using every technique available to make it search engine friendly.
There is little point therefore in entrusting the web site for a significant venture to a novice or volunteer; nor is there any gain in using a cheap web site service that does not facilitate effective promotion of your web site and business.
